

Maro is a producer, director, author, and former television executive whose numerous documentary films and television programs have toured the world in prestigious festivals, played theatrically, broadcast on prime time television and won numerous awards. She has made films and series television for PBS, HBO, A&E, Turner Networks/TRU TV, TLC, Bravo, Discovery, France 2 and Channel 4UK.
Maro is a Founder and Chairman of the MFA Program in Social Documentary at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, launching in the Fall of 2009. She is a former faculty member of New York University’s Graduate School of Film and Television where she taught for four years.
Most recently, Maro was co-creator, executive producer and director of the Emmy Award-winning 10-part PBS television event CARRIER that premiered in April 2008 to widespread critical acclaim.
From 2002 to 2004, Maro served as programming executive and network consultant for the A&E Television Network. During her tenure at A&E she served as supervising producer for the landmark series BIOGRAPHY, which was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2004. With her colleague Michael Epstein, she produced BRAIN FINGERPRINTING that aired as part of the highly regarded science series INNOVATION on PBS.
In 2001-2002, she produced and directed the 6-part PBS series FRONTIER HOUSE for Thirteen/WNET and Channel 4 UK. FRONTIER HOUSE was one of the highest-rated programs in the history of PBS.
In 2002, she produced, wrote and directed the feature documentary special ROLE REVERSAL for A&E.
In 2000, she produced, directed and wrote the 2-hour feature documentary JUILLIARD, which aired as part of the Emmy Award-winning PBS series AMERICAN MASTERS. She also authored the eponymous companion book, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc.
In 1998, she produced, directed and edited the feature length documentary THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS. Produced with James Redford and Christine Le Goff, the film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in 1998 and aired on HBO in October 1999.
In 1997, Maro produced and edited NASHVILLE: CROSSING THE LINE for the award winning series TRAUMA: LIFE IN THE ER for New York Times Television.
Over the last ten years, she has worked as a consultant and editor on fifteen one-hour CHARLIE ROSE specials.
Maro began her career working in film publicity and promotion at The Kanew Company and R. Greenberg Associates where she edited trailers and television spots for over 40 feature films including BEETLEJUICE, ACCIDENTAL TOURIST, RAIN MAN, DANGEROUS LIAISONS, LETHAL WEAPON, MOONSTRUCK and WORKING GIRL. She went on to edit Larry Fessenden’s feature film NO TELLING.
Maro is a member of the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She is represented for television by Kimberly Carver at Innovative Artists and for commercials by Pola Brown at Workhorse Media.
